Mthetheleli "Mtheza" Buya
Mthetheleli “Mtheza” Buya is the founder and Managing Director of Sthathu.
Mtheza sits on several boards of the Sthathu investments. He is also involved with the operation in certain of these investments.
He was born in 1972 in the Eastern Cape and was schooled at Thubalethu High School in Fort Beaufort.
In 1999 Mtheza obtained his B.Juris and LLB degrees from the University of Fort Hare.
In March 1998 Mtheza was elected Chairman of the Housing portfolio of the Fort Beaufort Municipality responsible for accelerating housing delivery for more than 1,000 beneficiaries.
There after he took up a position with the Heath Special Investigating Unit, as a forensic investigator and was subsequently appointed as a legal representative when he qualified as an Advocate of the Supreme Court of South Africa.
In 2001 he was approached by KPMG to head the Forensic and Investigative Accounting division in the Eastern Cape. A role which he fulfilled for a period of three years, after which he decided to venture into consulting. Mtheza was appointed as a Director for KPMG Consulting focusing on both Private and Public sector.
When KPMG’s Consulting practice was sold to EOH, a company listed in the IT sector on the Johannesburg Securities Exchange and traded under the name EOH Consulting, Mtheza was appointed as a Director for EOH Consulting.
In July 2006, as a result of Mtheza's interest in the financial services sector, he joined Real People Ltd. Real People is a South African-based financial services institution. It’s subsidiaries specialise in providing home improvement finance, debt-collection services and assurance products. The group had more than 1,200 employees and was one of the major employers in East London at the time.
Mtheza was appointed as Group Director responsible for Strategic Alliances within the Real People group, where he sat on the Real People Board and Executive Committee.
In 2006 he founded the Sthathu Group.
